Millturn IT Pty Ltd (ABN #70607441323) offers complete and collaborative Agile IT application development services, specialising in Open Source Web and cross-platform mobile applications. We use the latest Open Source software technologies: the React and Angular web application frameworks on the front-end and Cloud-hosted serverless Node.js microservices (using NoSQL document-based databases) at the back-end. Our test-driven philosophy ensures high quality software. An approved seller on the Digital Marketplace, we are partnered with the App development company Aurita. We are fully insured (public liability and professional indemnity).

As well as developing our own products, Millturn offers a consultancy service in business analysis/user research; architecture; and software development, from the enterprise down to the functional level. We can also mentor your staff, either as an independent engagement or as part of a project knowledge transfer. We have many years' experience assisting many different Federal and State government departments as well as the private sector.

Recent engagements

  • (2019: Katie) Agile product management and software development services for the Mullion Group, a greenhouse gas emissions analytics company, working on their FLINTPro platform.
  • (2019: Evan and Katie) Design, development, testing and release of the Australian Peak Power Saver Assist (APPSA) Web/Mobile Application for the Department of Environment and Energy, to gather airconditioner installation data to produce a Register of air conditioners which can be controlled through demand-response capability. We also built the Register and the API enabling (authenticated) access to the Register's data.
  • (2018: Evan and Katie) Development, testing and release of a home energy efficiency assessment tool for start-up EnergyFit Homes.
  • (2018: Katie) IT architecture for the Defence Seaworthiness Information Management System (DSWiMS) for the Optimation Group Australia.
  • (2017: Evan and Katie) Development of an AgTech product concept (predictive analytics for vineyard management) as part of the SproutX Pre-accelerator Program.
  • (2017-2018: Katie) Commissioned by the Australian Dictionary of Biography (along with colleague M.Horne) to write Colonel Edward 'Weary' Dunlop's official biography.
  • (2017-2018: Katie with colleague M.Horne) Our article ‘Jungle Camp Science: Do-it-yourself medicines in two POW hospital camps on the Japanese Burma-Thailand Railway, 1942-45’ was published in 2018 by the 'Health and History' Journal.
  • (2017: Katie) Agile Business/Systems analysis services (including business intelligence report analysis) for the 'Australian Business Licence Information System NextGen' system at the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS).
  • (Ongoing: Evan) Architectural services for the Australian Tax Office.
  • (2017: Evan and Katie) Evaluation of an outsourced Web application for another startup. Against the software product quality requirements in our SPQR application, we assessed the application’s architectural soundness. We also evaluated it against best-practice architectural standards for the Web and used performance testing tools (Blazemeter URL tests), code quality assessment tools (SonarQube), network testing (using F12 Developer Tools) and code inspection.
  • (2016-ongoing: Evan and Katie) Development of a home energy efficiency rating tool (responsive MEAN stack Web application) for startup Deposit Energy. Funded by EnergyLab.
  • (2016: Katie) Business analysis (BA) services as well as BA mentorship and training for the Murray Darling Basin Authority.

Katie Mills

Managing Director, business analyst and developer

Katie is a business analyst, full-stack software developer and historian who has 17 years' IT experience in the government, research and environmental sectors. A former landscape architect, she also holds a Bachelor of Computer Science and Philosophy (with Distinction) and a Master of History (High Distinction grade average) from the ANU, which informs Millturn’s heritage work.

Managing Director, architect and developer

A qualified engineer (holding an Honours Engineering degree and a Graduate Diploma in Philosophy), Evan has 20 years’ IT experience as an architect and developer. He cares deeply about building reliable, scalable and well performing systems. He enjoys keeping abreast of the latest technologies. He has studied horticulture and has built a flourishing organic garden with Katie.
